Fishing Grounds

RACHA YAI: The islands of Racha Yai and Racha Noi are located just 12-20 miles from Phuket, and provide great fishing for those wishing to target Sailfish, Tuna, Dorado, Giant Trevally, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda and Wahoo. On the crossing to the Racha Islands, and for the duration of the morning, we troll for the above species, and occasionally south of the islands Black Marlin can be encountered, and therefore a concentrated effort will be made to hook one!

Sailfish are present year round, and the best time to target them is during the afternoon. The Sailfish here range between 40 -180 pounds. Trolling Tuna belly – strips close to the islands can produce multiple strikes and has got to be one of the most exhilarating experiences in the world of angling! Most days Sailfish can be spotted tail-walking and jumping in large numbers close by the islands. When this happens, it’s a case of steering the boat in their direction in an effort to put the lures right over the top of them. Then it’s a case of get ready, and hope that the strikes come!

RACHA NOI: The rocky pinnacles to the south of Racha Noi Island can offer sizzling sport with Black Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo and several other desirable gamefish. It is here where the vast schools of Giant Trevally regularly embark on their feeding sprees. On such occasions, popper-casting can result in a memorable fishing session. Jigging over the pinnacles can also produce exciting action with Giant Trevally, Rainbow Runners and even the occasional Dogtooth Tuna.

THE DROP OFF: The drop-off is 22 miles west of Phuket, on the continental shelf and offers a good chance of Black Marlin. It is also the haunt of Skipjack and Yellowfin Tuna- though rarely trophy size. Wahoo, Barracuda, Rainbow Runners and Dorado are other species often caught here. The Skipjack action is normally very good all year here. Sailfish do show up occasionally but seldom in great numbers.

THE SIMILAN ISLANDS: We can also offer a liveaboard fishing trip to the Similan Islands which is located approx 60 miles North West of Phuket. This marine national park consists of nine islands which offers some of the most diverse reefs around. Fishing is not allowed within the marine park to protect this beautiful area, so we ensure that all our fishing takes place well outside the boarders. The fish that can be found in this area are Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Skipjack and Barracuda. Also popper casting and jig fishing for Giant Trevally and Dogtooth Tuna can be very productive as well as night bottom fishing for Grouper.

KOH ROK/KOH HA: Located 56 miles south east of Phuket, these 2 islands have been mentioned in several sailing magazines because of its beautiful white beaches, the crystal clear water, the fantastic reef and excellent shelter for the night.
